Indo-Aryan temple generic form : Chiefly employed in the Orrisan temples - (A.D. 800 to 1250)


The Northern or Indo-Aryan style
Two square units; grabhgriha and mandapa are joined. Notice the narrow passage connecting the two. This was true in all the Indo-Aryan temples as generative form.

Even in the Dravadian temple style square was the basic form the main shrine got evolved. In case of gopuram plan was rectangle which provided impressive wider side in front as entry point.
