The Khajuraho temples distinguish with no customary enclosure walls, one unified structure rather than different structures combined like was in the Orrisan examples. The mandapas were opened up with seating balconies around unlike the Orrisan example provided no side balconies.

The Orrisan temples development shows astylar order, no pillars. The generic deul towering structure is fronted by square building called jagmohan (mandapa), in later examples supplemented by Nat-mandir and Bhog- mandir

The 500 AD Durga temple at Aihole is planned like a Buddhist Chaitya hall surrounded by a verandah with pillars. The apsidal ended part of the temple becomes a garbhagrihya.

It is important development/derivation in geometry of temple plan.
